Raymond E. “Shorty” Hicks
BLUEFIELD — Raymond E. “Shorty” Hicks, 74, of Route 3, Box 708,
Bluefield, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his residence.
Born on April 23, 1931 in McComas, he was the son of the late
Flem Hicks Sr. and Alice Hardin Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a member of the
Bluefield Moose Lodge and served his country during the Korean Conflict with the
U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Flem
Jr., Junior, Sherman, Earl, Willard, Cecil and Marvin, and four sisters, Lizzie,
Vicie, Blanche and Beatrice.
Survivors include two brothers, Joe Hicks of Bluefield and David Hicks of
Montcalm; one sister, Nancy Gillenwater and husband W.D. of Bluefield; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. D. Homer Stewart
officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Monday, April 24, 2006 from 6
to 8 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews.
The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, is serving the Hicks family.
