BLUEFIELD - Charles Moyer Martin Jr., 81, of Route 4, Box 121, Bluefield, died on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 in a Tazewell, Va. hospital.
Born on Jan. 16, 1922, at McComas, he was a son of the late Charles Moyer and Nina Landreth Martin. He had been a resident of Bluefield for three years and formerly lived in Jacksonville, Fla. He was of the Protestant faith and was a graduate of McComas High School. He was a retired salesman. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force and served in World War II and the Korean conflict where he was a POW. He had received numerous medals and awards for his service to our country.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Miller Henley Martin and Cecil Martin, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: Two sons: Charles Paul Martin and wife Marsha of Jacksonville, N.C. and Samuel Martin of Bluefield; one daughter: Barbara Gail Slaven and husband Jack of Oakland, Calif.; one grandson: Ben; two brothers: Alvah H. Martin and wife Geneva of Fayetteville, N.C. and James L. Martin and wife Glenna of Bluefield; two sisters: Kay Hunt of Abingdon, Va. and Freda Aliff and husband Bill of Meadowview, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with the Rev. Dennis Mehaffie officiating. The Mercer County Veteran's Council will also conduct military graveside rites.
Those wishing to attend graveside services on Thursday are requested to meet at the cemetery.
