LASHMEET — Hazel R. Mitchem Asbury, 81, of Lashmeet, formerly of McComas, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 at Sandra's Home Sweet Home Care Home in Lashmeet.
Born July 31, 1925 at Weyanoke, she was the daughter of the late Andrew “Andy” Taylor and Dora Carpenter Taylor.
Mrs. Asbury was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She loved the outdoors, fishing and antiquing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Eulas Mitchem; her second husband, Ralph Asbury; one daughter, Shelby Jean Bailey; five brothers, Hurley Taylor, Hubert Taylor, Aubrey Taylor, Ted Taylor and Harley Taylor; and four sisters, Thelma Reed, Mamie Barrett, Ethel Atwell and Nellie J. White.
Survivors include four sons, Aaron Mitchem and his wife Carol of Old Lashmeet Road, Frank Mitchem of River Road, Duhring, Bernard Mitchem of Taylorsville, N.C., and Lonnie Mitchem and his wife Sharon of River Road; two daughters, Patty Church of Skating Rink Hollow and Connie Bourgue and her husband Don of Lorton Lick Road; one brother, Lacy Taylor of Lake Bottom; one sister, Louise Jenkins and her husband Arlie of Sandlick; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Elwood Rakes officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
