Robert Landers Akers, Sr.
McCOMAS — Robert Landers Akers Sr., age 70, of Route 2 Box 317, McComas, died on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at his residence.
Born on July 12, 1937 in Goodwill, he was a son of the late Alfred Ray and Annie Mae Frazier Akers. He had been a resident of McComas for 50 years and was a retired electrician. He was a member of the Crane Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Miranda “Lottie” Reed Akers; and two sisters, Barbara McKinney and Frances Jones.
Survivors include one son, Robert L. Akers, Jr. and wife Amanda of Bluefield, Va.; two daughters, Tammy Coeburn and husband Mike of McComas, Melissa Akers and friend Tim of McComas; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers: Eugene Akers and wife Shirley of McComas, Andrew Akers and wife Shirley of Matoaka, Sammy Akers and wife Carol of Lashmeet, Mickey Akers and wife Helga of Georgia; one sister, Willie Akers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Daniel Parish and Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Akers family.
