 Roy H. Conner, 79, of the Gardner Road (RR 02 Box 422) Princeton died peacefully early Sunday morning, July 18, 2004 at the Princeton Community Hospital. Born May 6, 1925 at McComas, he was the son of the late Doc and Gracie Austin Conner. Mr. Conner was educated in Mercer County, had worked in the coal industry for over 31 years, last working for the Semet Sovet Coal Company at Capels. He was a member of the UMWA. Mr. Conner loved to spend time with his family. Roy enjoyed sitting on his porch and swinging, was an avid horse shoe player and attended the Rich Creek Baptist Church at Spanishburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delphia "Dickie" Wood Conner; along with sisters, Hazel Davis, Mayda Williams, Ocie Conner; along with two brothers, Garwood Conner and Jack Conner. Left to cherish his memory, his devoted son and wife, Freddie L. and Betty Conner of Spanishburg; and long with two grandchildren that he loved so dearly, Melinda Conner of Princeton and Leroy Conner and wife, Donna of Sissonville; and two great-grandsons, Austin Conner of Sissonville and Takota Bailey of Princeton. Additional survivors include his sister, Jean Belcher and husband, Calvin of Herndon; brothers, Donald Conner and wife, Mildred of Princeton, Randolph Conner and wife, Faye of Bainbridge, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Maxine Conner. On Tuesday at 11 a.m., we will celebrate the life of Roy Conner from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with the Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Burial will follow in the Ball Family Cemetery near Athens. Friends may visit with the family today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family, friends and men of the church will serve as pallbearers. The family of Roy Conner is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
