MS. PAT,

YOUR WEBSITE FOR McCOMAS IS OF GREAT INTEREST TO ME. I AM JUDY SUTHERLAND FROM McCOMAS AND REVA ALDERMAN IS MY AUNT.

MY MEMORIES OF McCOMAS AND MY GRANDPARENTS, LERTY AND LIZZY ALDERMAN, ARE A TREASURE I WILL CHERISH FOREVER. I LIVED IN McCOMAS UNTIL 15 YEARS OF AGE, ATTENDING CRANE CREEK GRADE SCHOOL AND McCOMAS HIGH UNTIL TENTH GRADE.  AT CRANE CREEK GRADE SCHOOL  MR. BAILEY MADE JUNE PHILLIPS AND I FEEL VERY SPECIAL FOR HE OFTEN ASKED US TO RING THE BELL AND WOULD SWING US ON HIS ONE ARM.

MY FIRST YEAR OF SCHOOL, I RECALL MS. KEATLY GIVING ME SPECIAL LOVE AND SHE ACTUALLY SAT ME ON HER LAP WHEN SHE SENSED I WAS SCARED. BEING AWAY FROM MY GRANDMOTHER FOR MY VERY FIRST TIME I WAS SCARED. AFTER ALL, GRANDMOTHER WAS MY SECURITY BLANKET AND I WAS ALWAYS NEAR HER.

REVA AND I WERE TRUE SISTERS FOR SHE WOULD BRIBE ME TO WASH ALL THE DISHES BY TELLING ME THAT I WAS DOING A GREAT JOB! HOW CUNNING WAS THAT! BUT, WHEN I WAS IN TROUBLE, SHE CAME TO MY RESCUE.

LATER MY SISTER, ETTA JEAN KADE WAS BORN. SHE AND I ARE DEAREST OF FRIENDS AS WELL AS SISTERS. HER MOTHER AND DAD WERE NORMA AND LEONARD KADE ALSO FROM MCCOMAS. THEY LIVED IN SAGAMORE HOLLOW AND I LOVED MY VISITS WITH THEM FOR THEY HAD FANCY COLORED SOAP THAT I LOVED TO USE! ISNT IT AMAZING THE PEOPLE AND THINGS WE RECALL WHO WERE VERY SPECIAL TO OUR YOUNG HEART?

I FONDLY REMEMBER CREOLA AND CLAUDE HALL AND THEIR DAUGHTER SUSIE. SUSIE HAD A SISTER CAROLINE AND TWO BROTHERS. MY GRANDMOTHER AND I MADE MANY TRIPS TO THEIR HOME AND SUSIE AND HER MOTHER VISITED OUR HOME AS WELL. I AM INTERESTED TO HEAR FROM SUSIE HALL OR INFORMATION CONCERNING HER.

WHILE ATTENDING CRANE CREEK GRADE SCHOOL I HAD TWO VERY DEAR FRIENDS. JUNE PHILLIPS AND I KEPT IN TOUCH UNTIL SHE DIED A FEW YEARS AGO. JUNE WAS MARRIED AND HAD THREE DAUGHTERS. MY OTHER FRIEND OF GREAT INTEREST, WHO  WAS VERY GENEROUS AND SHARED HER DELICIOUS LUNCH WITH ME, IS JESSICA HURST. I LOST CONTACT WITH HER MANY YEARS AGO BUT, I HAVE OFTEN THOUGHT HOW I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM HER. IF ANYONE HAS INFORMATINN CONCERNING JESSICA HURST, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

ANOTHER PRECIOUS MEMORY I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ISFOR ALL THOSE WHO WENT TO CHURCH ON WINDMILL GAP, ANDY HODGES BEING OUR PASTOR. THREE TIMES A WEEK, HE WOULD DRIVE HIS TRUCK DOWN THE HILL TO SAGAMORE MAKING SURE WE ALL HAD A RIDE TO CHURCH. THAT WAS FUN EVEN WHEN IT WAS RAINING, FOR THEN HE WOULD COVER THE BACK OF HIS TRUCK WITH AN OLD TARP TO KEEP US DRY.

MY MOTHER, NORMA ALDERMAN HAD A SISTER NAMED HELEN ALDERMAN. HELEN AND HER HUBBY JOHN D. JARVIS LIVED IN MCDOWELL, WV. THEY HAVE A SON ZACKERY JARVIS AND HE ADDED TO OUR FAMILY THE EXCITEMENT OF HAVING A BOY AROUND. I RECALL THE JOY OF MY GRANDPARENTS WHEN THEY FINALLY HAD A GRANDSON! PAPAW ALDERMAN TOOK HIM ON MANY JOURNEYS SEARCHING FOR TREASURE'S AND I AM SURE THEIR GREATEST TREASURE WAS THE TIME TOGETHER OUT IN THE WOODS.

MY THREE CHILDREN DAVID, MELANIE AND JEFF HAVE 10 CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN, AND I ALSO HAVE FIVE GREAT GRAND CHILDREN. I AM SURE YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME WHEN I TELL YOU THIS TRUTH. I TOOK MY THREE CHILDREN TO CHURCH WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG AND ONCE THEY LEFT HOME, THEY REMEMBERED  ONE BIBLE VERSE, "BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY." I AM THANKFUL THEY DID FOR I CANNOT IMAGINE MY LIFE WITHOUT MY QUIVER FULL OF LOVE.  TWO OF OUR GRANDSONS, SHAUN AND CHRIS WERE IN IRAQ SERVING IN THE ARMY. ANOTHER GRANDSON ERIK, WAS IN GERMANY SERVING IN THE AIR FORCE AND PRESENTLY OUR GRANDSON MATTHEW IS IN TRAINING TO SERVE THE ARMY IN IRAQ BEGINNING IN NOV.

MY HUBBY, DAVID, AND I LIVE A QUIET BUT ACTIVE LIFE ENJOYING THE THINGS OF INTEREST TO US. CAN YOU IMAGINE SOMEONE TRYING TO FIND McCOMAS WHEN HE LIVED  MANY MILES AWAY AND HAD NEVER SO MUCH AS HEARD OF McCOMAS UNTIL HE FELL IN LOVE WITH ME? I WAS VISITING MY GRANDPARENTS  ONE CHRISTMAS AND DAVID, MY BOYFRIEND AT THE TIME, DROVE TO DEEP DARK HOOT OWL HOLLOW AT NIGHT AND SNOWING TO FIND HIS BRIDE-TO-BE. WELL, ALL IS WELL THAT ENDS WELL, FIFTY YEARS LATER WE ARE STILL TOGETHER AND FRIENDS.

BLESSINGS TO ALL THOSE THAT WERE TOUCHED IN SOME SMALL WAY AS THEY JOURNEYED THROUGH LIFE AND RECALL THEIR JOYS AND TEARS THEY EXPERIENCED IN McCOMAS, WV. AS WE RECALL WITH FONDNESS THE SIMPLICITY OF OUR FAR DISTANT LIFE IN McCOMAS, REMEMBER TO EMBRACE THE BEAUTY OF EACH MOMENT GOD ALLOWS US THIS SIDE OF ETERNITY AND SERVE GOD AND OTHERS WELL.

BLESSINGS TO ALL, JUDY SUTHERLAND
